This is NOT a book-club book. This is NOT an ex-library book. This is the real deal: the true 1st edition, 1st printing. SCROLL DOWN THIS PAGE IMMEDIATELY TO SEE THE CONDITION OF THIS BOOK AND THIS DUST JACKET. Anne Rice was born in 1941 in New Orleans. She is best known as the author of vampire fiction, gothic fiction, Christian literature, and erotica. Anne Rice also lived in Texas as a child before moving to San Francisco. She was raised as a Roman Catholic, but became an atheist as a young adult. A few years ago she became a Catholic again, but then distance herself from organized Christianity, partly because of her disagreement with some of the Churchs stances on social issues. She apparently now considers herself to be a secular humanist.

She married her husband Stan Rice in 1961 and they spent time living in Oklahoma, Texas, and in San Francisco. In Political Science in 1964 from San Francisco State University.

In 1972 she graduated with an M. In Creative Writing from SFSU. Her first novel was the very famous INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE (offered here). Anne Rice is the author of such great and famous books as INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE (offered here) , the sequels to INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE including THE VAMPIRE LESTAT, THE QUEEN OF THE DAMNED, THE TALE OF THE BODY THIEF, and some others; the Lives of the Mayfair Witches, including THE WITCHING HOUR, LASHER, and TALTOS; some stand alone novels including THE FEAST OF ALL SAINTS, CRY TO HEAVEN, THE MUMMY OR RAMSES THE DAMNED; a couple of novels under the Anne Rampling pseudonym, EXIT TO EDEN and BELINDA; and the Beauty novels under the A.

Roquelaure pseudonym, THE CLAIMING OF SLEEPING BEAUTY, BEAUTYS PUNISHMENT, and BEAUTYS RELEASE; and a number of others. From the dust jacket flap. A young man pours out an almost hypnotic account of his life.

Gifted with immortality, cursed with a craving for human blood, he has lived for two hundred years as a vampire. Of the night when, a rich young heir, he departed human existence and was inducted into the endless life. Reluctant to take human life, he learns first to sustain himself on the blood of animals.

But as the years pass he gradually embraces the habits, hungers, feelings of vampirism; the detachment, the hardened will, the sensual pleasure. In a dark New Orleans street he finds the exquisite lost child, Claudia, wanting not to hurt but to comfort her, struggling against the last residue of human feeling within him. And we see how Claudia in turn becomes a vampire. We see them joined against the envious, dangerous rival vampire, Lestat, embarking on a perilous search across Europe for others like themselves, desperate to discover the ways of survival, to know what they are and why. In Paris they discover the Theatre des Vampires, the beautiful, lewd and febrile mime theatre whose posters of penny-dreadful vampires at once mask and reveal the horror within. And they meet the eerily magnetic Armand, who brings them, at last, into intimacy with a whole brilliant and decadent society of vampires; an intimacy that becomes sudden terror when they are compelled to confront what they feared and flee. This unceasing flow of spellbinding storytelling, of danger and flight, loyalty and treachery, announces a literary imagination of the first order.

From the rear flap of the dust jacket. Anne Rice was born in New Orleans in 1941. She now lives in Berkeley, California, with her husband, the poet Stan Rice. INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE is her first novel.

Clearly Anne Rice is one of the best, most famous, most important, and most collectible vampire/horror/dark fantasy authors in the world. Ex-library books must be noted as such since generally they are of little value to the collector of 1st editions. Condition is also very important to those collectors.

Books and dust jackets must be described in detail. Mistakes can be made (and corrected), of course, but if you DON'T KNOW, don't try to sell a book as a 1st edition.

The book is tight and square in its black black paper-boards binding with bright gilt lettering on the spine of the book. The book has the correct bright red endpapers. There is no writing in the book; no bookplates; no remainder marks.

There is some relatively minor shelf wear at the lower edges of the boards; largely unobtrusive. The upper and lower spine of the book shows some of the usual pushing of the edges of the binding due to the relatively poor construction of the binding, but the book is still nicer than is usually encountered. There are no chips or tears or wrinkles to the dust jacket. The dust jacket has undergone some archival reinforcement which has been accomplished by a professional paper conservationist. The reinforcement consists of the use of archival tape and archival paste.

The reinforcement is mainly at the upper and lower edges of the spine panel of the dust jacket. There is some relatively minor color touch-up, mainly at the upper and lower edges of the spine panel of the dust jacket. The gorgeous dust jacket artwork shows very nicely on the front panel of the dust jacket and is very evocative in terms of the vampire novel contained in the book.

There is a wonderful contemporary photograph of Anne Rice on the entire rear panel of the dust jacket.
