She is the author of such great and famous books as DOOMSDAY BOOK (offered here), WATER WITCH (co-authored with Cynthia Felice), LINCOLNS DREAMS, LIGHT RAID (co-authored with Cynthia Felice), REMAKE, UNCHARTED TERRITORY, BELLWETHER, PROMISED LAND (co-authored with Cynthia Felice), TO SAY NOTHING OF THE DOG, PASSAGE, INSIDE JOB, D. BLACK OUT/ALL CLEAR (a two-volume novel), FIRE WATCH, and a number of others.

For years the fiction of Connie Willis, winner of multiple Nebula and Hugo awards, has displayed an astonishing degree of expertise. The range and depth of both her short stories and her first novel, the John W. Campbell Award winner LINCOLNS DREAMS, have impressed and moved critics and readers alike.

At last, five years in the writing, comes DOOMSDAY BOOK, a tour de force of storytelling, a novel that explores the ageless issues of evil, suffering, and the indomitable will of the human spirit. For Kivrin, preparing for on-site study of one of the deadliest eras in humanitys history was as simple as receiving inoculations against the diseases of the fourteenth century and inventing an alibi for a woman traveling alone. For Dunworthy and her instructors in the twenty-first century, it meant painstaking calculations and careful monitoring of the rendezvous location where Kivrin would be retrieved. But a crisis strangely linking past and future strands Kivrin in the most dangerous year of the Middle Ages as her fellows try desperately to rescue her.

In a time of superstition and fear, Kivrin -- barely of age herself -- finds she has become an unlikely angel of hope during one of historys darkest hours. From the rear flap of the dust jacket: PRAISE FOR CONNIE WILLISS FIRST NOVEL, LINCOLNS DREAMS: A love story on more than one level, and Ms. Willis does justice to them all.

I was engrossed in the characters. - The New York Times Book Review.

A tantalizing mix of history and scientific speculation. Willis tells this tale with clarity and assurance. LINCOLNS DREAMS is a novel of classical proportions and virtues. - The Washington Post Book-World.

LINCOLNS DREAMS is not so uch written as sculpted. No one has reproduced the past that haunts the present any better than Connie Willis. - The Christian Science Monitor. From the rear panel of the dust jacket: PRAISE FOR DOOMSDAY BOOK: I have never been let down by a Connie Willis story, and this one is no exception. My, what a good book. The writing of Connie Willis is irresistible. Clever, cunning, and capable of fantalizing the most demanding reader.

Willis is a unique and powerful talent. DOOMSDAY BOOK will solidify her reputation as one of the major writers in science fiction today. Heres a novel that never stops. DOOMSDAY BOOK teems with real people in impossible situations; it will make you laugh and break your heart. With this masterwork, she lays claim to being one of the very best of our novels.

Im always impressed by the Williss stories take on big challenges without sacrificing popular appeal. Best of all, she knows that the way to make a reader think is first to make her feel. If, like me, youre addicted to both, you will be harrowed, and exalted, by DOOMSDAY BOOK. Some of the awards and award nominations that Connie Willis has been honored with: 1983: Fire Watch.
