Clearly Stephen King is not only one of the greatest of all dark fantasy and horror writers in the world, he is also one of the greatest of all time. He is the logical successor to Edgar Allan Poe and H. And, he is also one of the greatest of all modern fiction writers, regardless of genre.

The Overlook Hotel claimed the most beautiful physical setting of any resort in the world; but Jack Torrance, the new winter caretaker, with his wife Wendy and their five-year-old son Danny, saw much more than its splendor. Jack saw the Overlook as an opportunity, a desperate way back from failure and despair; Wendy saw this lonely sanctuary as a frail chance to preserve their family; and Danny? Danny, who was blessed or cursed with a shining, precognitive gift, saw visions hideously beyond the comprehension of a small boy.

He sensed the evil coiled within the Overlooks 110 empty rooms; an evil that was waiting just for them. THE SHINING, by Stephen King, the undisputed master of the modern horror story. Ex-library books must be noted as such since generally they are of little value to the collector of 1st editions.

Condition is also very important to those collectors. Books and dust jackets must be described in detail. Mistakes can be made (and corrected), of course, but if you DON'T KNOW, don't try to sell a book as a 1st edition. The book is tight and square in its black quarter-cloth and tan boards binding with gilt lettering on the spine of the book.

There is no writing in the book; no bookplates; no remainder marks (this is very important in that copies of THE SHINING often show up with the infamous Doubleday remainder spray on the bottom [or top] edge of the pages). There is minor rubbing to the spine panel of the book; largely unobtrusive; much less than is usually encountered. The dust jacket has undergone some minor, archival (using non-acidic materials) reinforcement that was accomplished by a professional paper conservationist.

The reinforcement is not visible when looking at the dust jacket from the outside. The great and famous and iconic full wrap-around dust jacket artwork is by artist Dave Christensen. This is definitely a collectors copy of this book and dust jacket.

It is quite difficult to find FINE/FINE copies of THE SHINING. The book usually shows up soiled, well-read, and with a spine slant.

The dust jacket usually shows up rubbed and worn and torn. This copy is quite nice.
